ServSafe is a food safety training and certification program that is widely used in the U.S. food industry. The program is administered by the National Restaurant Association and is designed to educate food industry workers on safe food handling and preparation practices including restaurants, bars, cafeterias, grocery stores, hotels among others.
ServSafe courses are required and cover topics such as food safety, foodborne illness prevention, cross contamination control, personal hygiene, cleaning and sanitizing, food storage, labeling and food traceability. In addition, it also focuses on the requirements of the U.S. Food Safety Act and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards.
