Annual Community Events
Latin American and Caribbean Festival
The University of Pittsburgh Center for Latin American Studies organizes a festival usually in April every year for the Latino community in the city. There are food stands and merchandise stands as well as performances by Latino artists and groups.
PHDC is a Sponsor.
Cinco de Mayo Festival
Beechview usually hosts the Annual "Cinco de Mayo Festival" in May at Las Palmas Mexican Store Parking Garage. Also, Latino restaurants throughout the city offer food and drink specials as well as activities for the holiday.
PHDC is the organizer of this festival.
Latino Picnic
This picnic is hosted yearly by the Latin American Cultural Union (LACU) usually in the summer for Latin families to come together and enjoy a taste of home food. LACU provides the venue and organizes games and performances from 12pm-7pm. This picnic is also a way for individuals to network and learn about Latin programs and events by other Latino non-profits.
PHDC has partnered in the recent years with LACU to organize this event.
TacoFest
Event usually hosted in the summer. Taquerias and food trucks from all around the city gather in downtown Pittsburg and compete for the title of best taco in the city.
PHDC is one of the organizers and sponsor.
Day of the Dead
Events usually hosted on the first and second days of November. Latino restaurants throughout the city offer food and drink specials as well as activities for the holiday. Churches offer special masses to honor the recently deceased.

Latino Owned Businesses
Las Palmas (Mexican Market/ Taco Stand)
Las Palmas is a market/ restaurant Latino owned and run that now has three locations around the city. Their original and very first store is located in Brookline. Las Palmas is the "go to" market for many Latino and non-Latino residents in Pittsburgh.

Cilantro & Ajo
Cilantro & Ajo was founded by Marlyn and Anthony a Venezuelan couple that shares a love for the traditional food of their country. They opened this restaurant in 2018 with the hope of sharing part of the Venezuelan culture with the community in the city through their traditional recipes and delectable food.

The Colombian Spot
The Colombian Spot is a family run business opened in 2015 with the intent to give Pittsburgh a real taste of Colombian food. This restaurant offers arepas and other native Colombian dishes full of traditional ingredients and flavors.

Totopo
Totopo is a Latino owned and run restaurant in Pittsburgh that started in Dormont. Since its grand opening the owners have also opened Tocayo which is a smaller version of the original restaurant located in Shadyside. Both of these establishments offer great food and creative drinks as well as spice to the everyday routine in the city.

Casa Brazil
Casa Brazil brings the best flavors of Brazilian home cooking to Pittsburgh. Casa Brazil has "residência" which is a program that allows different chefs to host pop-up dinners in there restaurant. This program helps get recognition for international chefs that are new to the city.

Fogo de Chão
Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse is a chain restaurant that opened its first location in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 1979. Fogo is known for their grilling method "Churrasco" which is a traditional Brazilian grilling style. Fogo expanded to the US in 1987 with the first location opening up in Dallas, Texas. This charrusqueria continues offering delicious grilled meat an authentic Brazilian cuisine.

Chicken Latino
Chicken Latino was opened by Shelby Santos in 2007 and has been providing The inhabitants of Pittsburgh with traditionally roasted Peruvian chicken. "special wood-fired brick oven from Peru that enables her to cook special dishes in authentic Peruvian style. With her oven and recipes from home, Santos has brought a unique Latino flavor to a neighborhood known for great food" (Chicken Latino, 2020)

Reyna Foods
Reyna Foods opened its doors in 1988 as one of the only ethnic food spot in the city. Nicola Dicio started this business to diversify the culture in the city by offering Mexican goods and cuisine. Reyna Foods provides has provided the Latino community good food and familiar products for the past 22 years and hopefully many more to come.

El Comedor de la Tia
El Comedor de la Tia is a Salvadoran restaurant that opened up this year with the help of PHDC. They offer delicious food and refreshing drinks for great prices.

La Feria
"La Feria is two things, a restaurant serving mainly Peruvian cuisine, and a shop/ gallery selling Peruvian clothing and folk art. We opened in 1993 as a joint venture between Pamela Cohen and Gail Klingensmith of Pamela’s Restaurants and Peruvian Luisa Porras." (La Feria)

Con Alma
Con Alma is a restaurant and jazz bar inspired by the rich heritage of jazz in Pittsburgh. Con Alma, which means “with soul,” seeks to return jazz to its rightful place at the forefront of the local music scene while providing patrons with some of the best food and drinks the city has to offer. Las Velas
Las Velas is a Mexican restaurant owned by David Montanez. It opened in 2009 and is located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh. David, who was born and raised in Mexico City and then moved to the Riviera Maya, has the goal of creating dishes that are inspired by both Mexico City and the Riviera Maya.
